Vinyl gloves are made from poly vinyl chloride (PVC) and are a good latex free alternative to nitrile gloves. They are less strong or durable than latex or nitrile and allow less manual dexterity but have good resistance against chemicals.
You probably felt discomfort wearing latex gloves. Drying effects and skin irritation can be really annoying. With vinyl gloves this isn’t a problem.
When you are hypesensitive to latex you react to proteins occuring in natural rubber latex. Your bodies defense against this causes various symptoms like eczema and asthma. As a result you can have flushed skin, low blood pressure and difficulties in breathing.
To avoid any problems with gloves just follow this advice.
- Don’t take lotions when using latex gloves.
- After using latex gloves wash and dry your hands.
- You need to know the symptoms of latex allergy like skin rash, itching, hives.
Uses of vinyl gloves
Vinyl medical examination gloves are subjected to strict testing to ensure that they are of the necessary high quality. They do not have the resistance to chemicals of nitrile equivalents but are favoured by many medical establishments because of their lower cost. Vinyl gloves are also used for cleaning, preparation of food, and other industrial environments. They can also be used for many tasks in the home.
Vinyl gloves are relatively cheap in comparision to other latex alternatives and are comfortable to wear. Disposal is a problem, though, and incineration is to be avoided as it can result in the production of dioxin which is a carcinogen.
